As temperatures across the U.S. are forecasted to stay colder than normal throughout the remainder of the month, we want to share an update about natural gas prices and how we’re working to minimize the impact on your bills.

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Natural gas prices: Commodity prices for natural gas are projected to rise due to increased national demand for heating during this period of colder weather.
  2. What we're doing: We’ve bought most of the natural gas needed for the winter ahead of time so we can cover your typical usage during these colder months. We’re also using as much as we can from our storage to avoid buying at higher prices. These steps are helping us keep your costs as low as we can.

With colder temperatures, heating needs during this time are expected to increase, which may result in higher usage for many homes. We encourage all members to take some simple steps to help manage energy use safely and efficiently.

We care deeply about ensuring your comfort and safety during this time. These tips will help you stay warm while managing usage:

  • Adjust your thermostat smartly: Lower your thermostat a few degrees while you’re sleeping or away from home—but avoid lowering it below 68°F if you’re indoors to ensure comfort and safety.
  • Heat rooms you use most: Close doors to unused spaces to focus warmth where you need it.
  • Dress warmer indoors: Layer your clothing and use blankets to stay cozy without overworking your heating system.
  • Run ceiling fans clockwise: Use your ceiling fan at a low speed to push warm air down.
  • Seal drafts: Simple fixes like weather-stripping doors or using draft stoppers can make a big difference.
  • Water heater efficiency: Lower the water heater temperature to 120°F if possible for energy savings.
