JCE Co-op participates in Youth Day and the Youth to Washington Tour. Sponsored through the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives (AIEC) and its member cooperatives, this tour allows high school students an opportunity to get a closer look at their state and federal governments.

Youth Day

March 20, 2024   l   Springfield

For over 60 years the electric and telephone cooperatives of Illinois have given our leaders of tomorrow a once in a lifetime opportunity where students are able to learn about their IL legislation and the cooperative business model.  State representatives and senators offer the opportunity to pass their knowledge on about how the government works, why it’s important to get involved, inspire, and encourage our youth.

Youth Tour

June 14-21, 2024   l   More information coming soon

The Youth to Washington program has been in existence for more than 40 years. Many alumni of this program work for local, state, or federal governments or serve as elected officials. The program rewards students for academic achievement and community leadership, while educating them about the democratic form of government and the role of electric co-ops in the national economy. While experiencing the wonder of our nation’s Capital, the trip fosters leadership skills that students can take home in hopes that they too can make a difference in their communities.  JCE Co-op sends two students on the weeklong all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. They join more than 60 other students from across Illinois for this experience.
